Daniel Day-Lewis to Play Lincoln, Visits Illinois
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) -- Academy Award-winning actor Daniel Day-Lewis has visited Springfield as he prepares to play Abraham Lincoln.

DreamsWorks Studios announced Friday that Day-Lewis would star as the president in the Steven Spielberg-directed film "Lincoln." The movie is based on the book "Team of Rivals" by Doris Kearns Goodwin. The screenplay is by award-winning writer Tony Kushner.

The State Journal-Register reports that Day-Lewis and Goodwin on Friday toured the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum, the Lincoln Home, the Old State Capitol and the Lincoln-Herndon Law Offices.

Co-producer Kathleen Kennedy tells the newspaper the group was moved after visiting the vault below the library and seeing several Lincoln artifacts.

According to DreamWorks, filming is expected to begin in fall 2011 and the movie is to be released in late 2012.
