Butterball to the Turkey Rescue!
(IRN) -- If you need help cooking the turkey, it's as close as a phone call to Naperville.

That's where 50 experts are staffing the Butterball Turkey Talk line, which on this day is like a suicide prevention hotline for some cooks in a panic.

"We have to ask them what state they're calling from, and a lot of them are in the state of confusion," says Nancy Sheldon, a Turkey Talk expert for 16 years. "But we like to help them out and calm them down and reassure them that it'll all be OK in the end."

Sheldon is otherwise a home economics teacher at Edison Middle School in Wheaton . She says she hopes everyone has already thawed the turkey, or it’s going to be a late dinner tonight.

The phone number is 1-800-BUTTERBALL, and the advice is free, no matter what brand of turkey you have. Hours are 6 a.m.-6 p.m. Thursday and 8 a.m.-6 p.m. every day for the rest of the year.

The Turkey Talk line fields 100,000 calls in November and December, 11,000 of them on Thanksgiving. The experts also respond to 500,000 e-mails.
