IL Agencies Make Thanksgiving Possible for Poor
Illinois agencies that serve the poor are dishing up thousands of free Thanksgiving meals statewide.

Chicago's Pacific Garden Mission will serve an estimated 2,100 residents on Thursday.

Organizers say feeding that many hungry folks takes 600 pounds of turkey, 760 pounds of potatoes and sweet potatoes and 350 pounds of green beans.

The Rev. Jesse Jackson plans to spend the holiday helping to feed Chicago-area homeless at the Rainbow PUSH Coalition headquarters.

And Chicago's Berghoff Restaurant will be open this year to serve residents of Neumann Family Services, a nonprofit that serves people with development disabilities and mental illness.

In Peoria, the South Side Mission will serve more than 2,000 meals.

And thousands are expected at free dinners in Herrin and Carbondale in southern Illinois.
