Big Black Friday in Illinois
(IRN)-It's Black Friday, and the doors are already busted.

The traditional start to the Christmas shopping season occurred at 4 a.m. at some stores, with so called door buster discounts for the early shoppers. Opening hours were even earlier at some stores, midnight at Fox Valley Mall in Aurora, says David F. Vite, president of the Illinois Retail Merchants Association, and Thanksgiving hours for Sears and K-mart.

Vite says 47 percent of consumers will be in the stores today. Electronics and clothing will be popular items. Retailers expect sales during the holiday period to be up over last year's holiday period by a little over 2 percent.

Vite says the sales tax holiday on back to school items in August, and the rebates offered on energy efficient appliances this year will not dampen demand now.
