Holiday Shopping the Swedish Way in Henry County
The holiday season is one of the biggest and most important times for a lot of places, but it's as much important as it is special in the historic Swedish village of Bishop Hill.

The Henry County community near Galva is once again kicking off a holiday season full of activities with their annual "Julmarknad" or, "Christmas Market" this weekend and next starting Friday.

Mike Wendell is administrator of the Bishop Hill Heritage Association, and tells WGIL all kinds of Swedish tradition and history will be displayed.

"We have Swedish folk characters and traditional Swedish holiday decorations and gifts. We have make and take kits for our make and take program and basically what kids can do with their parents is come in and take different types of things like ornaments."

Wendell says that's in addition to all the Bishop Hill businesses and restaurants being open, a special Lionel Train display in the Bishop Hill Steeple Building, and more.

Julmarknad runs from 10am to 5pm today through Sunday, then 10am to 5pm next Saturday and Sunday.
