Holiday Shopping Can Support State Ag Industry
If you're looking for a unique holiday gift, a state agency may be able to help you out, along with some two hundred stores in Illinois that sell food products.

Familiar items like caramel corn, sausage, hot sauce, and wine, and less familiar items like ostrich meat and gluten-free cookies and cakes all can be found on a new state website, and all are either grown, made, or raised in Illinois.

Illinois Department of Agriculture Spokesman Jeff Squibb says the site his department has set up makes finding such food gifts easy.

"This website is a way to draw attention to the many products that are made right here in the state, and to support those businesses, and to keep those dollars here at home where they can benefit our local economies," Squibb said.

Squibb says that's in addition to a message that the state's agriculture industry isn't just about corn and soybeans.

"[People] don't realize that Illinois also has a very vibrant food processing industry," Squibb said. "There are almost 1,500 food companies located right here in the great state of Illinois."

An Abingdon business, "B's Country Specials," is among the business listed on the products website.
