Associate Judge Gets a Promotion
His opponent was right -- Judge Steven Bordner would still be a judge after election day -- but it was at the expense of that opponent.

The Lewistown man soundly defeated Knox County Public Defender Jim Harrell for the seat on the bench in the 9th Judicial Circuit being vacated by the retiring Stephen Mathers, not counting some numbers unavailable from Henderson County, by about a 59% to 41% Margin. Bordner took every area except the city of Galesburg, but was successful in the rest of Knox County.

Bordner tells WGIL it was, for him, a pleasure running and meeting the electorate.

"Many times, they don't know who their judges are," Bordner said. "I welcomed the opportunity to meet them and to learn what was on their minds. That why I was able to predict to you earlier that I was sure we were going to win this race."

Bordner praised Harrell for running a clean campaign, saying it would set the bar for future elections.

Harrell did not return calls for comment Tuesday night. Bordner will be sworn in December Sixth.
