Continued Shopping Optimism on Cyber Monday
A national agency is looking for continued sales gains on a day that has become just as important as one that precedes it by a couple of days.

The National Retail Federation says it's the fifth year that the term "Cyber Monday" has been a part of the retail industry's lexicon. This year, spokesperson and Galesburg native Ellen Davis says based on their projections, nine out of ten major retailers are planning some sort of internet-based promotion for all the online shoppers.

Davis tells WGIL retailers are trying as best as they can this year to get those online dollars.

"A lot of retailers are really trying to encourage people to shop online this year, in stores, through their mobile phone, you know anywhere that would make it easy for you to shop, retailers are trying to make sure that you have a good experience. So Cyber Monday will be even bigger this year."

How big? Davis says many retailers are offering free shipping on items purchased online, for example. She says while many retailers are offering deals today only, many had Cyber Monday deals starting last week and earlier.

Retailers, Davis says, are finally figuring out that they're not just competing with the other side of the mall or more local stores, they're also competing with the Ebay's and the Amazon-dot-com's of the world.
