Knox County Approves Budget for Next Year
Knox County employees were asked to take wage increase concessions next year in order to help balance the county budget. Union employees at the Knox County Nursing Home opted not to take the concession and now hours will have to be cut among employees.

Local American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees council 31 representative Randy Lynch says the nursing home is doing much better with more residents and enough is enough.

"Every year the nursing home, has come and asked us for something, reduced work weeks, reduced hours, wage concessions, no wage increases, and we gave and we gave and we gave and we gave to save the nursing home, and we would have again to if it was to save the nursing home, this was to save the county."

Board member and Fiance Committee Chairman Wayne Saline, however, says the nursing home still has a long way to go.

"It's not self-sustaining, it gets $1.2 million in additional tax dollars levied per year; $600,000 from the previously passed capitol improvement fund, and $600,000 for retirement so it does get $1.2 million additional on top of the generated revenues it brings in."

The county budget was approved at Monday night's county board meeting, with nursing home cuts, by a vote of 12 to 2.
