First of 3 Peoria Police Officers Tried in Videotaped Beating Found Not Guilty
PEORIA, Ill. (AP) -- A police union attorney says a Peoria officer acquitted of beating and shocking a man with a stun gun after a 2008 car chase could be back at work soon.

Police union attorney Sean Smoot says Andrew Smith could be back on the job soon after being on unpaid leave since his March 2009 arrest.

The (Peoria) Journal Star reported that jurors on Wednesday found Smith not guilty of official misconduct during the May 3, 2008 arrest of Bryce Scott.

The other two officers arrested charged with beating Scott have yet to go to trial. All three were charged with official misconduct.

The traffic stop that followed the chase was videotaped by a squad car camera.

Prosecutors argued Scott was compliant and that officers didn't need to use force.

Scott is serving a federal prison term for drug trafficking stemming from an unrelated arrest.
