Quinn Says Honored to Be Elected
(IRN)-Governor Pat Quinn declares himself the winner in the race for governor.

After Republican Bill Brady conceded in his hometown of Bloomington, Quinn claimed victory, surrounded by a few dozen supporters on the plaza outside the Thompson Center in Chicago, though he said on Thursday he was the "probable" winner with an advantage of 19,400 votes.

The governor says he is honored to have been elected, and he has big responsibilities: Putting Illinois to work, maintaining quality schools and running an honest government. "Those three challenges ahead are the ones that the people said on Tuesday they want their governor to do, and I'm ready to do it," he said.

Quinn, who trailed in public opinion polls throughout the campaign, says he was pleased to defy the pollsters on Election Day.
