Brady's Out of Governor's Race
(IRN) -- Just a day after saying there were plenty of avenues to pursue, State Sen. Bill Brady (R-Bloomington) has given up. Brady, before a roomful of supporters at a hotel in his hometown of Bloomington, says incumbent Democrat Pat Quinn has clearly won Tuesday's election for governor.

Brady promised to work with Democrats -- who still control both chambers of the legislature in addition to holding the governor's office -- in a bipartisan way to make Illinois the best state it can be.

Bipartisanship sounds foreign to some Capitol watchers. "Today's a new day," Brady said. He notes the gains the Illinois Republicans made in Congress and in the Illinois General Assembly, and that the Democrats surely realize that "the people of Illinois are speaking. It's time to come together in a bipartisan way to put our partisan differences aside and focus on Illinois' interests."

Where did it all go wrong for Brady? He would not speculate, saying "we remained loyal and consistent to our message," adding why he lost would be for the pundits to figure out.
