Driver's Cautioned to Beware of Deer
The chances of hitting a deer with your car go up this time of year. But the state of Illinois does have some good news in that regard.

The Illinois Department of Transportation says car deer accidents in the state are on the way down.

I-DOT spokesman Josh Kaufman.

"The number of people in crashes has decreased from 842 in 2007 to 752 in 2008 and as comparted to 708 in 2009. So there has been a consistent reduction."

I-DOT and Department of Natural Resources officials still urge being especially careful at dawn and dusk when deer might be most on the move.

Among local counties, Peoria and Fulton Counties continue to be among the tops in the state for car deer crashes. Peoria County had 483 in 2009, while Fulton County had 433. Cook County was tops in the state with 639.
