Central IL Soldier Dies in Combat in Afghanistan
ROCHESTER, Ill. (AP) -- A 25 year old central Illinois soldier has been killed in combat during his second tour of duty in Afghanistan.

The Department of Defense says Spc. James C. Young of Rochester died Nov. 3 in Kandahar province.

The department says Young died of wounds suffered when insurgents attacked his vehicle with an improvised explosive device.

He was assigned to the 863rd Engineer Battalion in Darien.

Young had surprised his family with a 15 day trip home less than two weeks before his death.

He joined the Army in 2004 after graduating from Glenwood High School in 2003.

He served in Korea before being deployed to Afghanistan for the first time. He returned home from his first tour in 2007. He began his second deployment in June.
