Remembering Kyle Wehrly
A little over five years ago a young soldier from Galesburg was killed in Iraq leaving behind family and friends.

28 year old SFC Kyle Wehrly was the first soldier from this area lost to the Iraq war.
But his legacy, attitude, and actions are not forgotten. Now, Josh Harris, Kyle's best friend is working to ensure no other soldier is either.

"We want to make sure that all the troops are remembered, that's why we've got that big table out there that's full of Christmas cards. People that come in, we're going to tell them go fill out a card, put a nice message on there, it doesn't have to be about Kyle, just say we appreciate what you're doing. We want those troops to understand that people care back here."

Harris puts an annual celebration together to remember and honor Kyle.

This year's events took place at Cherry Street Restaurant and Bar with some meal proceeds going to the Kyle Wehrly Education Foundation.

Food was also collected for the Fish Food Pantry in Galesburg.
