State Farm: Illinois #2 in Turkey-Related Fires
(IRN) -- Illinois ranks No. 2 in the nation in grease fires on Thanksgiving, a distinction attributed to turkey frying.

This is based on claims to Bloomington-based State Farm Insurance for grease and cooking fires on Thanksgiving over the last five years. These are presumably due to turkey frying efforts, which Missy Lundberg of State Farm says people dangerously do inside or next to their home or garage.

Good advice, she says, is to fry the turkey away from any structures, don't put too much oil in the fryer pot, and don’t leave it unattended.

Illinois has had 22 Thanksgiving grease fire claims during the period, second only to Texas with 33.
