Henry County Sheriff's Candidates Agree on One Thing
Candidates in the race for Henry County Sheriff agree on one thing.

The money the county receives for out of county inmates should be better used for the sheriff's office.

Republican candidate Jim Padilla works with the county now, and says not all the funds come to the sheriff's office, but raising the rates isn't an option.

"We can't raise the cost that we are charging for our out of county inmates. We are actually getting more money now than what Mercer County and Rock Island County are making for their inmates. If we demand an increase in pay, we stand the chance of loosing everyone of thos inmates."

Democratic candidate Tim Wise, Chief of the Annawan Police Department, says the office needs to have some emergency cash with the funds.

"I would like to see some sort of reserve fund set up. Out of county inmates is kind of a trendy business, sometimes you get a lot and sometimes you don't get any. When we're talking about people's jobs and livihoods, we should have some sort of reserve fund set up so when the numbers are lows we can save those jobs and people don't have to worry."

Wise ran for sheriff against current Sheriff Gib Cady but was unsuccessful in 2006. This time, Cady is not seeking another term.

The two attended a candidate forum in Kewanee last week.
