Big Donation for Orpheum Upgrade Project
Galesburg's Orpheum Theatre just got another big financial backer for its long-planned heating and air conditioning replacement project along with other work.

Theatre president Kate Francis said Saturday in a news release that an anonymous donor showed up at her door Wednesday afternoon with a $25,000 check in hand, and committed to another $25,000 donation next year.

Francis says the donor said "Now you won't have to borrow as much."

Francis told the Knox County Civic Center Authority Board last Monday that a bank has committed to an interest rate on any loan the Theatre may need to help fund the upgrades, though the theatre has not asked for a loan yet.

The $50,000 anonymous donation brings the theatre's fundraised total to $445,000 out of $515,000 needed. That's including $100,000 in federal stimulus dollars, money from the City's Tax Increment Financing District, and other contributions.

The CCA this week canned Johnson Controls as a contractor and hired Quad Cities-based KJWW, after Johnson told the board they couldn't do the work by a March 2012 deadline. KJWW plans to have lighting and electrical upgrades done before then.
