City Council Holds Budget Meeting Tonight
The Galesburg City Council will once again hear about the city's budget during a special meeting Monday evening.

The city budget document is available on the city's website, and breaks down expenditures and revenues by department.

The largest set of city expenditures outside of public works goes to the police department, while sales tax will be one of the biggest revenue generators for the city, among others.

Among the changes in the city budget, the addition of money for proposed city-wide wi-fi internet that the Galesburg School District is developing, and the near zero-ing of a budget for swimming at Lake Storey Beach.

Some aldermen want further cuts, while others say the budget is lean as is, while others still want a property tax increase in order to help fund city services.

The nearly 350-page budget document is available at the Galesburg Public Library, and on the city's website.

The work session which will deal with capital projects and external agency funding, is expected to run from 5:30 to 7 Monday night inside council chambers at Galesburg City Hall.
