EMS Task Force Hearing Tuesday In Galesburg
The state's Lieutenant Governor will hear E-M-S Task Force testimony Tuesday in Galesburg on improving emergency medical services.

Sheila Simon will join task force Co-Chairs, State Representatives Don Moffit and Lisa Dugan inside City Hall from 2pm to 4pm.

Simon tells the WGIL Morning News Tuesday's hearing will address significant issues facing E-M-S in rural Illinois.

"We enjoy living where we live, and they're tremendous assets," Simon said. "But the availability of good quality emergency medical services is not always there where we would like it to be."

"Some of it is issues with requirements of training, some of it is funding. So we've got opportunities to make some improvements in our system."

The price of particular drugs administered during an ambulance run is one illustration of a funding shortage according to Simon.

She says the cost of the drugs is often exceeds the reimbursement of the E-M-S transportation.

Simon hopes this issue, along with the challenge of providing critical services to rural areas not easily accessible, will be acknowledged by local E-M-S providers.
