Budget Increase For Local Agencies
Local social service and other agencies that annually request money from the City of Galesburg will get exactly what they want in the coming budget.

The Galesburg City Council agreed Monday night that over 54-thousand dollars could be included in the city's budget for what they term external agencies -- almost 16-thousand dollars more than administration originally budgeted for, adding money to what some originally described was a lean budget.

Sixth Ward Alderman Wayne Allen says you can't say no or give less money to the agencies.

"All of these organizations put in a tremendous amount of hours, and I can testify to that because I help some of them," he said. "Not only that, but they're the ambassadors to the city. $54,000 is pretty cheap for the amount of ambassadors we have for the city each year."

It's not clear how the city will re-balance the budget in order to meet the increased expense.

Another budget work session is scheduled for next Monday, prior to the regular City Council meeting.
