Property Tax Levy Virtually Unchanged For Carl Sandburg College
There won't be much of a difference in property tax bills for residents of the 10 counties of the Carl Sandburg College District -- at least, in the college's portion of the tax bill.

A tentative 2011 property tax levy request was given to the C-S-C Board of Trustees this week, and will be voted on in December. Chief Financial Officer Lisa Blake says the rate of around 60-cents per one-hundred-dollars of assessed value will be down a penny from the 2010 request, but will still bring the college over four percent more than what was extended to them in 2010.

Blake tells WGIL that's because of property values.

"We are anticipating property values to be up across the district, more so not for residential," she said. "But for the farmland that is comprised in our district. I believe we are about 40% farmland."

Blake says overall, land value in the district is up over one-percent, but farmland values are up as much as 10 percent.

She says the C-S-C board has been insistent that the college levy the same amount of property tax dollars regardless of the levy rate.

That's despite the fact that the state still owes the college about a half-million dollars in aid -- equal to about four months worth of money.
