Orpheum Upgrade Work Already Beginning
The president of Galesburg's Orpheum Theatre says the first pieces of work as part of major upgrades is already beginning.

Kate Francis told the Knox County Civic Center Authority Board yesterday that representatives of Quad Cities-based K-J-W-W will be at the theatre Thursday doing an inventory of the stage lights at the theatre to determine how they can best be replaced with more energy-efficient L-E-D stage lights.

Francis says that's despite the fact that not all the details about the first phase of the work have been worked out between the two sides in the form of a contract.

"It's a draft because we just had two things to pass them to modify," Francis said. The person negotiating the contract is in the office tomorrow (Thursday) to go over that."

"This will be the basic framework and I will make a note that they offered their services on the lower end of what they quoted us. And it's a fixed fee of $15,500."

K-J-W-W was hired to replace Johnson Controls as contractor on the project that will also eventually see the heating and air conditioning systems replaced as well.

The lighting work is expected to be complete by the end of March, and will be paid for in large part with a 100-thousand dollar federal economic stimulus grant.

Francis also revealed that of five shows planned next year in its popular "Red Carpet Series", contracts have been signed on three of the acts. A formal announcement of the shows will come next month.
