Academic Makeover For Monmouth College Calendar
Next year there will be a new way of learning at Monmouth College.

The academic calendar is changing from a 5-5 format to 4-4. This means students will be asked only to take four classes each semester instead of the typical workload of five.

Dean of the Faculty David Timmerman tells WGIL the reallocating of student and faculty's time is one of many moves in improving Monmouth College's academic program.

"This 4-4 is another way throughout our curriculum, every major that a student will take, will be richer," Timmerman said. "The basic idea behind it is doing fewer things better. So both faculty and students will be participating in slightly fewer courses at any one time, and those courses will be richer, and provide a deeper experience for them."

Timmerman says Monmouth is taking after the most common academic calendar used by the Associated College's of the Midwest; a collection of schools including Knox, Colorado, and Lake Forest Colleges.

He says the new workload will better accommodate the increasing students at Monmouth College. Students are more active, vigorous, and engaged than every in Monmouth according to Timmerman.
