FIRST ON WGIL: Galesburg Painted Favorably In Hotel Study
FIRST REPORTED: 3pm 11/17/11 There may be "no room at the inn", but there's plenty of room for an "Inn" in Galesburg.

A market study the Galesburg City Council will receive at their meeting Monday indicates that there is room for a new hotel in Galesburg -- based on both number of rooms available, and real estate.

Galesburg Economic Development Director Cesar Suarez tells WGIL there is a bit of problem, however, and has very little to do with the city.

"It also is cautionary to say the local and national economy is struggling, as well as financing to get hotels are also a difficult matter as well," he said. "But having said all that, the city does say that in comparison to neighboring communities, neighboring areas, and
looking at the supply and demand in general, there is a market to build a hotel here in Galesburg."

The study was done at the request of an unidentified developer that was looking into Galesburg. Suarez says he'll give the study to City Manager Todd Thompson and Mayor Sal Garza who were the ones that have been working with said developer.

The study looked at the areas of North Henderson Street, U-S 34 and Seminary Street, Interstate 74 and East Main Street and downtown Galesburg. Of those, Suarez says downtown Galesburg is the least desirable.
