Holiday Weekend in Store in Galesburg
Thanksgiving is just around the corner, but so is Christmas-- and the city of Galesburg will be making residents plenty aware of that this weekend.

It will be the third straight year the city will be celebrating Christmas the weekend before Thanksgiving. Galesburg Business Association President Dennis Case says the better weather prompted the change.

He tells the WGIL Morning News the holiday festivities begin Saturday morning in downtown Galesburg.

"We're expecting several hundred people downtown for the Open House," Case said. "That runs from 10-3 on Saturday. We'll have Santa at Ducky's Formal Wear; he'll be there with the elves from 10 until 2 that day. We'll also have a free trolley ride leaving from in front of Ducky's from 11-1, and they'll take you all around downtown Galesburg."

Various businesses downtown will open their doors for the Holiday Open House Saturday and will offer treats.

Case says the public is eligible to win one of two $500 shopping cards available when they receive a stamp at any of their doors.

The holiday parade steps off from Chambers and East Main Street at 2pm Sunday. Prior to that, around 1:15 there will be a rooftop rescue of Santa Clause from the top of the First Mid Illinois Bank building at Main and Cherry Streets.
