Family Member Reacts to Sheley Verdict
Family members of the Galesburg man accused spree killer Nicholas Sheley was convicted of murdering say they're pleased with the sentence he has received.

Knox County Circuit Court Judge James Stewart Friday morning handed Sheley a sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole for 65-year old Ronald Randall's death in 2008. Sheley also was given concurrent sentences of 30 years for Aggravated Vehicular Hijacking, and 7 years for Possession of a Stolen Vehicle.

Randall's sister Dee Connour told reporters she almost couldn't believe it when she heard the words "life in prison."

"I about fell over from weakness," Connour said. "Just finally hearing that word, it was amazing."

Connour was asked if the sentence brings any closure to the family.

"Partly," Connour said. "It won't be completely, but it helps."

Connor told the court during a victim impact statement that her brother never hurt a soul, and was helpful to everyone around him.

She expressed remorse for not being able to say goodbye to her brother before the body was found.

Prior to the sentencing, Stewart denied defense attorney Jeremy Karlin's motion for a new trial.

Karlin did not comment as he left the courthouse. He'll prepare to defense Sheley in Whiteside County now for one of five deaths he's accused of committing there.
