Railroad Days To Celebrate In 2012
An annual beginning-of-summer event in Galesburg will celebrate big next year, and some money from the City of Galesburg should help that assuming the budget is passed.

Railroad Days president Dennis Clark says 2012 is the 35th anniversary for the downtown Galesburg carnival and festival.

Clark told aldermen recently one of the new events he wants to bring in next year directly related to how to work on the railroad.

"The engineer training simulator, I've been speaking with an individual familiar with it, is actually a simulator that trains engineers," he said. "And with BNSF here, our best neighbor and special friend, it would be nice to have the simulator here, two or three simulators."

Clark says the Rib Cook-off will return next year after taking this year off, and because the Galesburg Jaycees have disbanded, CASA of Knox County will take it over.

He says Railroad Days will also add a Bean Bag tournament next year.

Railroad Days will be held June 23rd and 24th.
