Businessman Named Herring Award Winner
The first award recognizing individual community service efforts in Galesburg was given in 1979, and Monday afternoon the illustrious Thomas B. Herring class became one stronger.

During Monday's community Thanksgiving luncheon at the Kensington in Galesburg, CEO of Kleine Equipment Mark Kleine took home the annual award.

Kleine says he took a chance when he came to Galesburg 17 years ago and began his tractor business.

"I took a chance in a business. I took a chance in an area. The community has been very good to me, very good to me," Kleine said. "And for that, I'm very appreciative. I see it as my responsibility to continue to give back, and Jeanette and I will be doing that for many years to come. So, thank you very much."

Among his list of thank-you's, Kleine thanked his family, his staff and customers at Kleine Equipment.

In the past year, he has donated to over 60 entities in the Galesburg area that include the Red Cross, CASA, Safe Harbor, YMCA and the Orpheum Theatre.

Kleine is also the chair of the Alumni task force committee charged with renovating Knox College's Alumni Hall.
