Acting No Mayor, Knoxville's Top Official Resigns
Knoxville's city leader is heading back to her home area of Knox County-- the rural lands in between her now former city and Galesburg that is.

Acting Mayor Bernadine Fleisher officially announced her resignation before the city council Monday night.

She says it is time for her to move on, but continue doing community service work elsewhere.

Fleisher tells WGIL she enjoyed her time greatly on the council even before her stint as Mayor Pro Tem and Acting Mayor.

"This group of gentleman have been marvelous to work with, very cooperative," she said. "They all do their homework and read their packets before they come."

Fleisher says she has the upmost faith in Bob Johnson, who's next in line to lead the Knoxville City Council as Mayor Pro Tem.

She says he's been around the horn and doesn't need much advice, if any from herself.

But Johnson tells WGIL there will still be conversation between the two.

"I am going to rely on her for her time on the council and time as mayor," Johnson said. "I respect her and I respect her opinion."

Johnson overtook the Ward 2 Alderman position vacated by Fleisher in early October.

He brings eight years of administrative chair experience with the Knoxville City Council dating back to his final year in that role in 1994.
