Adult Use Ordinance Passes Final Approval In Knoxville
It passed the recommendations of the Zoning Board of Appeals and Planning Commission, and now the adult use ordinance can become law after the Knoxville City Council offered their final approval Monday night.

But the unanimous decision didn't come without hesitance from council members. Alderman Ed Mahar suggested raising the permit fee for such a business from $250-dollars to $15-hundred dollars.

Knoxville Attorney Rob McKoy says while he doubts adult use businesses would even come into the city, he doesn't advise increasing the fee.

"I think the risk is and the challenge to this is if you increase the fee, other than what was drafted as the $250 fee, it is much more than the city's actual cost," McKoy said. "It would be a discriminatory action."

McKoy says the ordinance is already aggressively designed to limit where adult uses could open in Knoxville.

The ordinance prohibits them from opening their doors within one thousand feet of any school, business, church, or residence. It also requires a specific window for hours of operation and prohibits any sexual intercourse or nudity.

The adult use ordinance will be put into order after ten days of publication.
