United Way Halfway To Goal
The head of the Knox County United Way is expressing optimism that this year's fundraising goal will be met.

Ann Tucker says the United Way is currently at half of its 360-thousand dollar goal for 2012 -- she'd like to end the campaign by the end of the year, after starting earlier this year in hopes of getting to just that point.

Tucker tells WGIL the member agencies need the money now more than ever.

"To see these people that work at our partner agencies, they definately have a lot of passion for what they do," she said. And they're providing services regardless of whether or not they are receiving their money from the state. They're requried to provide those services in order to receive their money, but the money isn't flowing through."

Tucker points to several agencies in particular -- like Prairie State Legal Services, which is preparing to lay off all but one of its employees due to funding issues, and the Knox County Area Project, which she says has had an uncertain future now for several years.

Anyone who wants to give can just call Tucker's office in downtown Galesburg, or go to the Knox County United Way's website.
