Knoxville School Board Discusses Property Tax Levy
Property owners in the Knoxville School District, outside of those who own farmland, should see a slight decrease in their property tax bills next year.

District-202 Superintendent Steve Wilder says the school board there this week saw a tentative tax levy that sits at about $4.41 per $100 of assessed value, as compared to about $4.55 in the 2010 request.

Wilder tells WGIL like the rest of the area, one particular area of the district is doing quite well.

"Farmland overall went up about 10 percent," Wilder said. "Residential property was either flat or down a little bit. So, we have the farmers to thank for that 4% increase in our assessed valuation. We certainly appreciate that contribution to the school district."

Wilder says he is asking for slightly more money than last year, but expects residential property tax owners to see their bills go down slightly next year.

He says he did leave some potential money on the table, but since the last fiscal year ended in the black, he thought lessening the tax burden if possible was a good thing.
