Knox County Board Member Resigns
UPDATED 10:00am, 11/24/11 Another longtime member of the Knox County Board is stepping down.

The head of the Knox County Republican Party, fellow county board member Bill Abel, says District-One Republican Allen Pickrel has resigned his seat, not long before all seats on the Knox County Board would have been up for election in 2012.

Pickrel, according to the Knox County Clerk's Office, has served on the board since 1998, and also served as chair from 2006 to 2008, prior to District-two Democrat Greg Bacon getting elected.

Pickrel tells WGIL in an e-mail that his resignation was for a personal reason, and that he regrets he won't be able to attend one final meeting this month. He says his stepping down has nothing to do with the County Board, any recent votes, or any county operations.

Abel, meanwhile, says the local GOP will caucus December 14th to select a replacement. Bacon, as chair however, could select someone else. Either way, though, the County Board will vote on the appointment.

Pickrel is the latest longtime Knox County Board member to step down. District-Four Republican Wayne Saline resigned in July, to be replaced by David Erickson.
