| Local Well-Known Attorney Passes Away |
A Galesburg attorney who was as well known for his legal work as he was for his philanthropic work has passed away.
The Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Home in Galesburg says attorney Thomas West passed away Thanksgiving day while in Northfield, Minnesota. He was 71.
West was in semi-retirement, but remained the Galesburg School District attorney. He also previously had served as the Knoxville School District attorney.
He's a former Assistant State's Attorney for Knox County, and a former Assistant Illinois Attorney General.
West, a Galesburg High School graduate, was also vice president of the Bondi Building Corporation, a former president of Soangetaha Country Club, and is a former Carl Sandburg College Board of Trustees member, and former Chairman of the Board of Directors of OSF Saint Mary Medical Center.
West's family asks that donations be made either to the hospital's Foundation, to CSC, to Discovery Depot, to a charity at Temple Sholom in the West and Bondi names, or another charity.
Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday Morning at 10:30 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West chapel in Galesburg. A visitation will be held there Tuesday from four to seven p-m.
West leaves behind a wife, two children, and three grandsons.
