Longtime Businessman and Radio Personality Passes Away
UPDATED 3:45pm 11/28/11 Sources say a longtime downtown Galesburg businessman and perhaps one of the longest-running radio personalities in WGIL's history has passed away.

Dean Lindstrom passed away early Sunday at the age of 92.

Dean Lindstrom is, of course, the name behind Lindstrom's TV and appliance, started by his father in 1925. But, in 1947, Dean started a radio program heard every Sunday morning on WGIL, as a way to showcase the records the store sold.

"Hi everybody, and a very happy Sunday morning to all of you. This is Dean Lindstrom, from Lindstrom's. We are going to be here for the next hour and 45 minutes, with music you've been missing."

Part of the opening of the Lindstrom's show on WGIL, hosted by Dean, his son Dick, and the late, great, Jack Larson, which went off the air in 2000. Dean Lindstrom told WGIL once that he was proud of a number of firsts for the store.

"We talked about the first television at the store in Knox County, the first color in Knox County, the first satellite dish in Knox County. All of this things, Lindstrom's has always been in all of those things."

In that interview from our archives, Dean Lindstrom went on to mention the store, now at Seminary and Main Streets, as having the first 61-inch television in the area, among other things as well.
