Setback and Progress in Knoxville Track Project
Progress on the new track and sports complex in the Knoxville School District is progressing, no thanks to mother nature.

District-202 Superintendent Steve Wilder says the district missed a self-imposed deadline of Halloween for the final rubberized surface of the track to be poured, in part, because of rain and cold temperatures that would have affected how the surface cured once it was poured.

But, Wilder tells WGIL he's not discouraged.

"There's still a lot of other work that we can focus on," Wilder said. "We are hopeful that in the spring, mother nature may pay us back for our patience and give us good weather early so we can lay that surface down and still run a couple tractors in the spring."

Wilder says a lot of work is being done now on weekends because the mostly volunteer labor doesn't want to work much after dark, given that it's getting darker earlier now.

He says bids have been let out for block concrete and will be considered at a special meeting December 6th.

Wilder expects electrical and other work to be done over the winter, with the final track surface being poured in the early spring.
