Landfill Administrator Proposes Adjustments to Contract Fees
The first 3-year contract for the Knox County Landfill with the city of Kewanee and Big River Resources is nearing its end, and the Landfill's Administrator has proposed a new set of rates.

Jerry Reynolds brought before the county board Monday night figures that call for a $2-dollar increase per ton from last year's landfill fee.

He says there may be an opportunity for a longer contract, but says three years is typically a better selection.

"If in two or three years we see we need to go up we may actually do more, rather than get us locked in for a long time," Reynolds said. "We need to be locked in long enough that we can substantiate the investment in our equipment, the investment in the vehicles, things along that line."

"But yet we still don't want to be locked in for so long that we cannot negotiate and get a more favorable position if that's what we need to do."

After the initial $2-dollar dollar increase that's proposed for year one of the next contract, Reynolds says the landfill fee will increase by a single dollar for each of the remaining two years.

He says he's received no negative comments from Kewanee or Big River on his proposal.

The landfill currently charges $30 dollars per ton for Knox County users and $32 dollars per ton for out of county ones.
