Vets Honored For Their Service
"Thank you,"--two words that never meant as much as they did Sunday for military veterans parading down Galesburg's Main Street.

The Veterans Day parade's grand marshals--the veterans of course-- packed into to three school buses.

World War II Veteran Dick Roling tells WGIL he appreciates the kind support.

"That is real nice, quite of few of them I know, I'm sitting with a of them right here," Roling said. "Couple others on the bus talking over old times and how we really enjoyed our trip to Washington D.C."

Veterans have several opportunities to visit the nation's capital and view the World War II monuments.

Veteran Jack Olmstead tells WGIL he enjoyed his September trip to Washington very much.

"It was kind of the frosting on the cake," he said. "When we came back from the war we were too busy to get on with our lives. Coming back from this trip and having people thank us and be grateful for our service, it was a wonderful thing."

Olmstead, Roling, and the rest of the veterans serving as grand marshals agree moments like Sunday make them feel proud to have served their country.

Veterans Day is this Friday.
