Anti-Graffiti Ordinance Tagged For Tabling Again
A proposed anti-graffiti ordinance in the City of Galesburg is on hold again after a new development surfaced that one official says might work.

The Galesburg City Council took off the table the proposed ordinance Monday night, but then later re-tabled it, after Galesburg-Area Chamber of Commerce president Bob Maus told aldermen an anonymous donor approached him.

Maus says the donor wants to work on something that might be a different but more effective approach toward getting businesses to clean up graffiti.

"Working wiht the city and working with the chamber to provide the funding necessary to create what we might call an anti-graffiti kit," he said. "Something the city can provide to anyone tagged in this way, for them to clean up their property very quickly."

Some aldermen said the ordinance the city proposed already addressed some of those concerns, but others said it's worth a try.

Maus says if it doesn't work, he'll be the first before the council to say an ordinance is needed.

He called the idea "exciting."
