State Senator Tires To Woo Galesburg Voters
A State Senator who's represented part of the area before will have a district that covers part of Galesburg if a court challenge holds up, and he's running for the seat.

John Sullivan is completing a two-day trip around the proposed new 47th District, and stopped in Galesburg Tuesday as part of his official announcement he's running for another term.

Sullivan tells WGIL he believes he can serve the part of Galesburg the new 47th would be in well, and isn't worried about the district's geography.

"I live just north of Rushville on a farm," he said. "It's about an hour from Galesburg, hour from Monmouth, an hour to Quincy, and about an hour over to San Jose over on US-136; it's kind of like the four corners of the district."

"Living in the center of the district makes it as conveinant as possible, there's no doubt I'll spend a lot of time on the road behind a windshield. But to me, it's a good district to get around."

Sullivan says he has a good working relationship with incumbent 74th District State Representative Don Moffitt, and already helped to get a state capital construction bill passed, which is bankrolling the three rail crossing grade separations in Galesburg.

Republican Adams County Circuit Clerk Randy Frese is so far the only other candidate to announce a run for the seat ahead of the March primary.
