Knoxville Residents Looking For Safe Passage For School Children
Congestion between Mable Woosley Elementary and Knoxville Junior High Schools is causing safety concerns among the residents living there and parents of children who walk to school.

Sheridan Street resident Sara Moore says many children utilize her street between Mill Street and Pleasant Avenue, but there's no where for them to walk but on the street.

She tells the Knoxville City Council a sidewalk can prevent tragedy before it strikes.

"The ones that would would at least have a safe passage," Moorse said. "I think if we wait until something happens and there's an accident of some sort, I think that could be detrimental to both the person who causes the accident, and the city, because I think they'll look back against the city."

Moore distributed a petition to council members Monday night with names supporting a sidewalk for the west side of Sheridan.

Alderman fear not every resident is on that list, Rob Derham is one of them. He says he will help Moore in contacting each resident.

The council seeks two answers: first if residents would approve of a sidewalk; and secondly if they would be willing to split the costs with the city by perhaps 50-percent.
