GEA Approves Tentative Agreement With District 205
Thanksgiving has apparently come early for Galesburg teachers according to the Galesburg teacher's union president.

Galesburg Education Association President Russ Ullrich says Wednesday night the union ratified a tentative contract by over a 95-percent vote.

The proposal was agreed upon with District 205 officials Monday, and Ullrich says the board of education will have to offer their final approval this Monday night.

He says he can't provide any details of the contract until then, but tells WGIL it's one featuring pros and cons.

"Several of the items that we discussed last (Wednesday) night got cheers, there were some disappointments," Ullrich said. "There were some things that we have been asking for, for a very long time from our school board, and I know our bargaining team was heartbroken about that."

"But, it doesn't mean just because it isn't in the contract doesn't mean it's not what's best for our kids, and we will still fight for that. We still hope the school board will step up and do those things for our students to help them and do what is right for them."

Ullrich does say the teachers are excited to get back to what they should be doing, teaching kids.

Almost 600 educators were present to vote on the contract at Galesburg High School Wednesday night-- most of whom declined comment.
