Modular Look The Next Approach For Rowva
Tradition may not be the traditional approach for district 208's board of education.

During a special meeting Tuesday night concerning the building design of plans for a new grade school, an initial architectural design by the Farnsworth Group was entirely scrapped.

Superintendent Lloyd Little says a modular is an interesting concept, but wonders how competitive an initial purchase of a 14ft by 70ft structure would be.

"That's something the architect or the construction manager, we want to go with a modular type versus the traditional block and steel design," Little said. "Work with the design companies and put out a bid, maybe that lowers that square foot cost for us."

The original cost proposed to the board was $175 dollars per square foot at 49-thousand total square feet. That option would run the district around nine million dollars.

The modular look viewed by board member Rob Kalb at a grade school in Gary, Indiana estimated at $60 dollars per square foot.

The board agreed to challenge the architect for a modular design and will be scheduling a visit to the view the model in Gary.
