District 205 Outlines Property Tax levy
Property owners in the Galesburg School District won't see much change in their property tax bills -- at least in the portion for the school district.

District-205 Assistant Superintendent for Finance and Operations Guy Cahill told the district's Budget Committee Thursday that the 16-million dollar levy request is virtually the same as last year, and that the levy rate will be the same, as well -- four-dollars, 20-cents per one-hundred dollars per assessed value.

Cahill says while residential property values are slightly down, that doesn't tell the whole story.

"The total value, it shows a lot of up-kicks," he said. "We don't show anything yet for Warren County, but we do expect that to go up, because all of that is farmland for us. So $386,688, a modest hundred thousand dollar change from the prior year."

Cahill says the change in property tax bills for school district needs will be a decrease of less than a dollar for the year.

He says the some areas of the property tax levy request will increase, some decrease, and some are eliminated.

The levy request will be before the District-205 School Board Monday night.
