GHS Principal Leaves To Become A Superintendent
There are only a few more months left on the job for the principal of Galesburg High School.

G-H-S Principal Tom Chiles confirms he's leaving District-205 at the end of June after six years to become the Superintendent of the Lena-Winslow School District in Northwestern Illinois near the Illinois/Wisconsin border.

Chiles tells WGIL he took the job simply so he could get a promotion of sorts.

"It's a career advancement situation for me and Lena is a very nice community and the school district's had a lot of success," Chiles said. "So it was a good fit for me."

And, Chiles says, with his daughter about to enter Kindergarten, now was the ideal time to move.

District-205 Superintendent Gene Denisar tells WGIL Lena-Winslow will benefit from Chiles' experience.

"Tom got his doctorate degree at the University of Iowa, and his speciality is school finance," he said. "And this is an opportunity to help a district there at Lena-Winslow, and I think he'll do a great job."

Chiles says it will be an adjustment dealing with all aspects of a school district, not just high school operations, but he feels he'll do well.

District-205 will now have to replace Chiles and Assistant Principal Steve Eismann, who's retiring at the end of the school year. Several other administrative vacancies are also open.
