Election complaint against State's Attorney dismissed
There are officially no election improprieties against the Knox County State's Attorney.
That's according to the Illinois State Board of Elections. The Board yesterday voted to dismiss a complaint filed by Assistant State's Attorney and candidate for the top job Erik Gibson, that John Pepmeyer's campaign didn't file campaign financial disclosure documents in a timely manner.
Pepmeyer was driving and unavailable for an interview when we called him yesterday, but pointed to a press release where he says he feels he's been vindicated, and that there were no facts to support what he called "reckless accusations" made by Gibson.
Gibson tells WGIL he doesn't think the process was fair.
"There was no investigation by the state," says Gibson. "They didn't look into bank accounts or anything of that nature so I was frustrated with the lack of investigation, but with that being said I'm going to keep doing what I'm doing."
Gibson, a part-time employee for WGIL in the Sports department, says that means he'll keep campaigning and bringing up issues of concern.
Pepmeyer, by the way, says financial records and spending were brought up at a preliminary hearing on the matter held last week.
