2012 Thomas B. Herring Award Winner Named
FIRST REPORTED 3:00pm 11/19/12 The Galesburg Area Chamber of Commerce held it's annual Thanksgiving Luncheon Monday afternoon.

Among the guests were Mayor Sal Garza who gave his State of the City speech and Keynote Speaker the Retired Circuit Judge the Honorable Harry Bulkeley.

The Luncheon ended with the Thomas B. Herring Community Service Award being given to Doug Gibb.

Last year's recipient Mark Kleine had the honor of presenting Gibb with this year's award telling the crowd he could not think of a better to person to honor.

"Today it is entirely fitting to recognize a person who exemplifies the true meaning of service to others," says Kleine.

Gibb took the Podium and thanked the crowd. He tell WGIL he wasn't even sure he'd be at the luncheon and this was the last thing he was expecting when he showed up.

"I'm very gracious and I'm very thankful it's a wonderful thing, but I share this with many people that work with us in this community that help keep this community going," says Gibb.

Gibb has been involved with the Big Brothers Big Sisters, YMCA Board of Directors, the Discovery Depot.

Most notable he's the co-founder of a national recognized children grief camp.

Gibb joins the WGIL Morning News Tuesday at 8:35am to talk about his accomplishment.
