Chamber Joins Forces with Police Department
Their goal is to grow local businesses, but you can't do that if you're constantly combating fraud.

That's why the Galesburg Area Chamber of Commerce will begin receiving alerts from the Galesburg Police Department about counterfeiting and insufficient funds fraud.

According to a press release yesterday, the Chamber will receive fraud notices and relay the information to member businesses through e-mail.

Executive Director Steven Brody tells WGIL this is a common sense service to provide to their members.

"As I have been going around meeting with other Chambers of Commerce, I noticed they have that benefit for their members," says Brody. "Once I knew about that, I contacted the police department to see if they were interested in partnering with us and they were very enthusiastic."

Brody says several news reports about currency fraud prompted the Chamber into action. Galesburg Police agreed to start filing any fraud notices yesterday.

The Chamber says they plan to be sensitive with the information they disseminate to businesses so as not harm possibly innocent individuals.
