No Decision On Abingdon Tax Levy
Now that the Abingdon and the Avon School District are about to become a consolidated district and a new school board has been formed, the two individual school districts don't have to decide what the 2012 tax levy will be.

However, the current board has decided they'll post what they think the 2012 tax levy could be for the public to see.

Abingdon Superintendent David Black told his board at a special meeting Tuesday night what he and Avon Superintendent Dan Oakley found when they combined the districts budgets and came up with what the 2012 tax levy might look like.

"What we did was look at what our levies would have been and combined them," says Black. "We looked at it as a combined district for what the taxing dollars would be."

Black says that would leave the tax payer with $5.70 cents per $100 of assessed valuation. That's without the tax abatement.

With a tax abatement it would be $4.68. He says the new school board will have to make the final decision on what the tax levy will be and that could come as early next Tuesday.
